George Prokopiou
George Procopiou has founded Sea Traders S.A. in 1974, Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd in 1991 and Dynagas Ltd. in 2004. Holding a degree in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), he has managed over the years a shipping fleet of more than 500 vessels, since first entering the shipping business in 1971, by purchasing one-third of a vessel. Since 2002, he has built more than 135 vessels in collaboration with shipyards in Japan, South Korea, and China.
In 2005, Dynacom was awarded the “Tanker Company of the Year” award by Lloyd’s List. In 2012, Dynagas made history when the company’s LNG carrier OB RIVER became the world’s first LNG Carrier to transit and carry cargo through the Northern Sea Route. In 2015, Dynagas received Statoil’s “Working Safely With Suppliers” operator award for safety performance above industry standards.
In 2013, George Procopiou was named “Greek Shipping Personality of the Year” by Lloyd’s List and in June 2017 he was presented with Seatrade’s “Lifetime Achievement Award”.
He has served as Chairman of the North of England P&I Association and is currently Chairman of the Greek Committee of Bureau Veritas, Chairman of the Mediterranean Committee of China Classification Society (CCS), Chairman of the Yacht Club of Greece (YCG), member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (HAEF), as well as member of the Greek Committees of DNV, Lloyd’s Register, RINA and ABS.
He is married, father of four daughters and has 10 grandchildren.
