“The Revolution of 1821” Interactive Calendar created by Athens College Elementary School Library

Mar 1, 2021

2021 is a symbolic year for all Greeks, as they celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the Greek state’s freedom and independence.  The 200 years since brave and illustrious men and women fought for their dream of an independent Greece.

On the occasion of the March 25th anniversary, our School’s librarians created a calendar titled “The Revolution of 1821.”

The calendar begins on March 1st and ends on March 25th.  Each day it presents something different: a snapshot of a battle, a hero, a tradition, a poem, even a Greek Revolutionary song.

Students can save the calendar on their computer from Related Files.  Selecting each day, they are transported back in time where they “meet” great personalities from Greece’s history, learn about the battles in which they fought, and become familiar with the commission they undertook for the freedom of their homeland.  You will also find the calendar posted on MS Teams.

Living in a difficult period of history, we draw inspiration from their actions and from the ethos of the fighters.  We too become, in our own way, heroes of the modern era and try to preserve the most important possession of all, our health.
