To commemorate the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821, 4th grade students read an excerpt from Dionysios Solomos’ The Free Besieged (Eleftheroi Poliorkimenoi). The poem’s verses and ideas evoked mental images, which they then drew within a human form

The human form symbolizes themselves and the images therein symbolize how they felt and what they imagined as they read the poem.  Surrounding the human form, they wrote verses from the poem, thus creating a visual composition of image and text.
