Patriotism: research project dedicated to the 200-year anniversary since the start of the Greek Revolution
As part of our School’s tribute to the 200-year anniversary since the start of the Greek Revolution, Athens College Elementary School students in section 5β first studied Theodoros Vryzakis’ painting, “For the Homeland, At All Lengths,” and identified the heroes of the Greek Revolution depicted therein. The students sought information about the lives and actions of the heroes, discussed the contribution of each to the struggle for independence and, in the end, expressed their opinions as to which hero of 1821 they consider the most important.
The students then studied Aristotle Valaoritis’ poem, “My Love for the Homeland,” through which they acquired a deeper concept of “homeland,” trying in succession to portray, in their own way, their feeling of love for it.
The students’ projects are contained in the presentation that can be found here.
