Distinction in Art Contest

Distinction in Art Contest

May 30, 2021

For the 8th consecutive year, the Museum of Cycladic Art organized a Panhellenic Drawing Competition in which 6,000 children aged 4 to 15 participated.

The theme of this year’s contest, which was associated with the 200-year anniversary since the start of the Greek Revolution, was “Everyday Heroes.” Inspired by the achievements of the heroes of Greece’s struggle for liberation and motived by their imagination and spontaneity, they captured the heroes of their daily lives in their own unique way.  The hero could be someone from the children’s family circle or a friend, a book hero or a personality they admire. Their range of choices was as broad as their ideas!

This year’s competition took place digitally.  As soon as the children had completed their drawings, they photographed them and uploaded them on a special platform that was created for the Museum of Cycladic Art’s contest.

The contest’s judges selected 36 winners and awarded 96 honorable mentions. Among the drawings that stood out within its respective age group was that of Dionysis Arapoglou, an Athens College Elementary School’s 3rd grade student.

It is worth mentioning that the Museum created a digital exhibition in which all of the participants’ drawings are on display up through August 31, 2021.  To view them, go to: https://kidscontest.cycladic.gr.

Congratulations to Dionysis and to all the students that participated in the contest!
