Within the context of the PYP interdisciplinary unit on “Who we are,” Anna Papafigkou, a theatrologist/animator, presented in drama game format the book “Daytime Visions: An Alphabet” to all Psychico College Elementary School 1st grade students.  Illustrated by Isol, the book is published in Greek by Martis.

Ms. Papafigkou focused on the big change that learning to read and write brings about in the life of 1st grade children.

As a point of departure, the book’s “playful alphabet,” in which each letter is associated with a drawing or design, was used to have our young students discover hidden letters hidden in the imaginative illustrations.  They then created stories and haiku, and formed the shape of letters using their bodies, as they were led in a game of knowledge and discovery.
