Psychico College Elementary School Choir Commemorates the Anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising
The Psychico College Elementary School Choir, under the guidance of the Music teacher Mr. N. Manolikakis, organized an event to commemorate the anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising. The event was particularly exciting and moving, marking the comeback of the choir after an unavoidable hiatus due to the Covid pandemic.
The Choir includes Grade 3, 4, and 6 students. It was founded many years ago, and represents our School in numerous events.
For the event, the Choir was accompanied by our teacher Mr. N. Zorbas on the bouzouki and music teacher Ms. V. Velliou on the piano. They performed two songs:
- Póte tha kánei ksasteriá (When Will the Skies Clear)
The clear skies of the song symbolized the overthrow of the dictatorship for the young people who sung this song during those dark seven years.
- Tis dikeosinis ilie noite (Sensible Sun of Justice)
The lyrics of this song come from the poem “The Axion Esti” by Odysseas
Elytis, which was first published in 1959. It was set to music by Mikis
Theodorakis in the late 1950s, during the time when he was living between
Athens and Paris. The song “Tis dikeosinis
ilie noite” came out in 1964, and is been sung ever since by the Greek people, having
been connected with the university students’ struggles against the dictatorship,
seeking freedom and democracy.
Our warmest congratulations to all the members of our Choir.
