Athens College Elementary Students win 1st place in International Competition Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) 2022

The Young Reporters for the Environment of Athens College Elementary won 1st place in the category

 “International Collaboration, International Young Reporters for the Environment Competition (YRE) 2022”.

The team worked under the guidance of English teacher Ms Apostoli and consisted of the following Grade 6 students: Vlastou Isavella, Kapsanis Theodoros, Linardos Dimitris, Bilfeld David, Brili Melita, Nezis Stergios, Papandropoulou Lydia, Stamelou Natalia, Frangaki Maro, Chanioti Ourania, Chatzopoulos Angelos.

Together with Turkish students from the school Özel Çanakkale Açı Ortaokulu, our students wrote an article entitled WILDFIRES & CLIMATE CHANGE A fiery summer for Turkey and Greece  with which they won 1st place in the specific category of the competition. It is worth noting that this year the YRE program received more than 230 entries from 35 countries. The winners were selected by representatives of UNESCO, UN Environment Program, MARS Wrigley Foundation, FEE and internationally distinguished journalists, photojournalists and filmmakers, who thoroughly evaluated each entry and awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, as well as Honorary Distinctions, based on the technical quality, level of research, originality and dissemination of each submission.
