Athens College Elementary Environment and Gardening Club participates in the 1st Student Conference "The World, the small, the big!"
On Friday, December 6, 2024, the Environment and Gardening Club (2023 - 2024) of Athens College Elementary School, member of the International Thematic Network for Education for Sustainability Myth2space (From Mythology to Space), took part in the 1st Student Conference "The World, the small, the big!", organized at the Conference Center of the National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos.
The aim of the Network is to provide a springboard for children's engagement with Greek culture, the environment, and science. The basic principle is cooperation between the schools that are members of the Network, which currently has 720 primary and secondary education departments from Greece and abroad with a total of 15,000 children.
The members of our Club were welcomed by Ms. A. Mitsotaki, President and Co-Founder of the World Human Forum and Head of the international movement Alpha Mission Delos, Mr. Lambrinoudakis, Professor Emeritus of Classical Archaeology at the University of Athens and member of the Board of Directors of Filekpaideutiki Etairia and Mr. Babaroutsis, Director of Directorate of Primary Education in the second region of Athens.
Our students enjoyed the presentation of Dr. S. Krimizis, President of the Academy of Athens, Professor Emeritus of NASA Space Programs, Professor at John Hopkins University and National Representative of Greece to ESA, entitled: "Exploration in Space with Robots", as well as A. Botsios, High School Student, Designer of the Robot "Niki" and Founder of Green Team and Dynamic Innovations, entitled: "Talos and Victory: From the first robot of mythology to the robot of today!". Afterwards, our students presented to Ms. Mitsotakis the poster with their actions on the impact of climate change on water.
On Saturday, December 7, 2024, our students presented in detail the actions they carried out in collaboration with the 2nd Experimental Elementary School of Rhodes, talked with the robot "Niki" and its manufacturer Andrianos Botsios and played games with the Periodic Table.
