Psychico College Elementary - Grade 4 STEM Program
When problems are not obstacles but starting points, then creativity finds solutions!
In the context of the 3rd Interdisciplinary Unit "Sharing the Planet" of Psychico College Grade 4, students became "little engineers" and were asked to provide solutions for the environment. Following the philosophy behind the Boston Museum of Science's Youth Engineering Solutions educational programs, they participated in activities that included reflecting and exploring the problem of pollution and then designing and building a filter for the plastic trash that ends up in the bay of an imaginary city.
The original and functional filters created by students in the Science Lab demonstrated the value of the STEM program for teaching 21st century skills: the ability to identify and solve problems, work in teams, cultivate critical thinking, and present effective solutions.
