
Athens College Elementary School Awarded by the "Learning about Forests and Ecosystems" Global Network
Athens College Elementary School was awarded for the actions implemented within the framework of the International Thematic Network for Environmental Education "Learning about Ecosystems and Forests", which is implemented in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The award ceremony was held in a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere at the "Danaos" cinema on Saturday, 25 January 2025.
At the event, 194 schools from all over Greece that participated in the program during the years 2021-2024 were awarded for the successful completion of the program. Our School was represented by a group of Grade 2 students who presented in English the event, "The Forest Feast" about the Tree Feast for animals and birds activity that has been carried out in our School for the last two years by Grade 1 and Grade 2 students.
Students of Grade 2 who participated in the event are: Aivatoglou Zoe, Valampous Vassilis, Vassilopoulou Areti, Galani Amalia, Gogali Ioanna, Drosi Martin, Kathariou Anastasia Louisa, Krostis Maria, Kypriotis Merkourios, Lalos Georgios, Michelinakis Evangelos, Opsimou Kallina, Paphillis Athanasios and Stroggylou Natalia.
Among other things, the steering committee referred to the actions of the School's Environment and Gardening Club, which promote the sustainable management of the forest and respect for this precious resource, and awarded the teachers of the Club (2021-2024) Marianthi Giannakopoulou, Grigoris Tzouvistas, Panagiotis Fines and Ambrosios Hatziapostolou.
Also, an award for their actions was given to the teachers of Grade 1 & 2 (2023-2024), Ioanna Adamis, Maria Dimitriou, Eleana Karava, Maria Karangelou, Katerina Karatziou, Konstantina Karachaliou, Makis Lefteratos, Georgia Mega, Nonika Nassopoulou, Eleni Neofotistou, Katerina Stefanakou and Despina Tabouratzi, as well as the English Department teachers Gelly Drimili, Vassilis Karastathis, Faye Kafetzopoulou, Evelyn Minaidi and Vassiliki Tsoumanis.
