Team Greece, the national schools debate team, won the European Schools Debating Championship 2024, which took place on February 15-17, with the support of the European Union. The European Debate Champions are the team that represents Greece in international schools competitions, and is comprised of five students: Alexia Sextou, from Anatolia College, and four students from our School: Manos Alevras, Kyriakos Gerogiannis, Leonidas Marinopoulos, and Maximus Papaioannides (all IB2 students).

The European Championship this year took place in Prague, where the Greek team competed against 20 national teams from all across Europe.

After 6 preliminary rounds, our team advanced to the quarterfinals, where they defeated Hungary, and then the semifinals, where they won against England. In the Grand Final, which was attended by μembers of the European Parliament, Team Greece became European Champions by defeating Team Romania.

This year’s Team Greece is preparing to compete and represent Greece in the World Schools Debating Championship 2024, which will take place in July in Belgrade. The preparation of the team is guided by coaches Themis Markidis, Kallina Basli (Forensics Head of the College) and Michael Shapira.
