International Museum Day 2018
In its effort to highlight the role of museums in modern society, in 1977, the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) established May 18th as International Museum Day.
May 18th is dedicated each year to a specific topic relating to museums and to the protection of cultural heritage.
Museums today hold a pivotal role in relationships that are created through the internet, while at the same time are the focus of many different social networks. The continuous expansion of the public sector, which is the standing objective of museums, requires enhanced interconnection of museums with one another, with other institutions/agencies and with the public. New approaches are also needed in order to disseminate the museum experience on social networks (in their digital or analogue format).
We remind you that the objective of International Museum Day, established in 1977, was to raise awareness of the fact that Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.
