"My familiarity with cafés started in a nondescript and effortless way. In the many years I spent traveling and writing about the Aegean Sea, cafés always served as an important and focal point of my research. Arriving in a village, the café was the first place where I would rest and garner my initial pieces of information. It was there that I would devise my plan of action and it was there, with the help of local patrons who approached me and willingly offered suggestions and assistance, that I gradually surpassed the awkward loneliness of the “newcomer.” And in the evenings, at the end of my daily mission, wearily returning to the café, I would recount my “achievements” and confirm the accuracy of the facts and information that the patrons had given me. Between appetizers and raki we celebrated the successful outcome of my investigations. Above all, however, we celebrated the pleasure of our acquaintanceship. (…)”

Βιογραφικό σημείωμα«Ο Γιώργος Πίττας γεννήθηκε το 1954 στην Αθήνα. Σχεδιαστής επίπλων και interior designer με παράλληλες σπουδές πολιτικής οικονομίας και κοινωνιολογίας στο Παρίσι. Ιδρυτικό μέλος της ομάδας "Νέο Κατοικείν", από το 1980. Από το 1995 μοιράζει τον χρόνο του μεταξύ Αθήνας και Λευκών της Πάρου, όπου διατηρεί την πρότυπη ξενοδοχειακή μονάδα "Lefkes Village". Διετέλεσε μέλος του Δ.Σ. του Συνδέσμου Ελληνικών Τουριστικών΄Επιχειρήσεων και του Ξενοδοχειακού Επιμελητηρίου Ελλάδος, όπου δραστηριοποιήθηκε σε θέματα πολιτισμού και εναλλακτικού τουρισμού. Έχει εκδώσει τα βιβλία: "Σημάδια του Αιγαίου", 2007, "Πάρος: οδοιπορικό στον τόπο και το τοπίο", 2008, "Αθηναϊκή ταβέρνα", 2009, "Πανηγύρια στο Αιγαίο", 2011.»
