During the past weeks, Athens College President, Professor Costas Synolakis '75, member of the Academy of Athens, has been raising awareness about climate change and everyone's efforts to avoid "the climatic Armageddon".

In his recent article in Sunday's Vima newspaper (8/1/2023), he talked about the unprecedented weather phenomena experienced during Christmas both in North America and Europe, the tipping points of the Earth's climate as well as  the climate law which is in existence in Greece.

In his article in gazetta.gr/plus (26/12/2022), he commented on the extreme temperature difference of 72 degrees Celsius between Europe and America during the same day, while emphasizing that humanity may not survive as we know it in the next century if the climate is completely destabilized.

In his article in Kathimerini newspaper (24/12/2022), he noted with optimism that the success that took place in mid-December at the Lawrence Livermore research center, where scientists for the first time managed to achieve nuclear fusion having less energy than the one actually released, was a "promethean moment for humanity". Reflecting on the global goal of zero carbon dioxide emissions in 2050, Mr. Synolakis said that this success is a spectacular start towards reaching the goal, which may largely be achieved with renewable energy sources and nuclear power from fusion and fission.

Also, speaking on Mega Channel on the show "Koinonia Ora Mega" (27/12/2022), he pointed out that climate change is responsible for the very low temperatures occurring in the USA that have cost many human lives, but also for the unusually spring-like Christmas period in Europe. He noted that weather events, such as extreme heat and ice cold temperatures, will occur more frequently and will be more intense in the future.
