Opening of the George Zongolopoulos "Enlightenment for Life" Exhibition at Athens College
The George Zongolopoulos "Enlightenment for Life" exhibition at the Athens College Theater with small-scale sculptures, paintings, archival material, and personal objects of the renowned Greek artist opened on Friday, November 3, 2023. The exhibition is organized by the Athens College Administration and the George Zongolopoulos Foundation and is held under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
The event was attended by members of the College Administration and Management, members of the Board of Directors of the George Zongolopoulos Foundation, and Athens College students. This exhibition follows the highly successful outdoor exhibition of large-scale sculptures by Zongolopoulos presented last May at the College.
Athens College President Professor Spiros N. Pollalis welcomed the attendees and noted how important it is that the campus is opening up to Art and that students have the opportunity to come into daily contact with the works.
On behalf of the Zongolopoulos Foundation and its President, Mr. Nikos Theodoridis, Eleni Sioti - Aloupi, member of the Board of Directors, addressed the audience, stressing that the title of the exhibition fully expresses the artist's belief that Art should be addressed to children and young people.
Victoria Karvouni, Athens College International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Visual Arts teacher and coordinator of the IB DP Arts, spoke about the educational approach of the Arts at our School.
Finally, Iris Kritikou, the curator of the exhibition, said that the show has returned as a gift to the College and its students, whom she invited to visit Zongolopoulos' house in Psychico to get even closer to the artist's multifaceted work.
Ms. Kritikou then gave a tour of the exhibition.
