Celebrating St. Martins Day at Athens College Elementary
Students of the Athens College Elementary School German Department participated in a series of activities to celebrate St. Martin, the patron saint of the poor, who distributed his possessions and taught solidarity, generosity, and support to those in need. St. Martin, celebrated on November 11, is a favorite holiday for children and is associated with many customs.
German language students had the opportunity to learn about these customs. In this context, they visited sections of the 3rd grade and together with their fellow students and classroom teachers as well as Visual Arts teachers they made lanterns. They then made cookies - Martinsmänner and sang St. Martin's carols at lunch time in our the Dining Hall in front of all the students of our School.
The activities delighted our students, who worked together excellently and with great spirit!
