European Parliament Ambassadors Schools Educational Program
Apr 1, 2024
In the context of Athens College High School's participation in the European Program "European Parliament Ambassadors Schools" (EPAS), one of the main activities organized was the simulation of a meeting of the European Parliament at the Choremi Theater.
In cooperation with the members of the MUN Club, the Junior Ambassadors of the European Parliament were responsible for the preparation and conduct of the simulation, the main theme of which was the fight against global climate change and preventive measures to protect the environment.
More specifically, on Monday, April 1, 2024, students divided into groups corresponding to the political groups of the European Parliament and debated on two proposals to tackle rising sea levels in the Netherlands, which poses risks for many countries in the European Union. Following the procedures of a session of the European Parliament, the two proposals were presented by the representatives of the groups, followed by a debate on the individual points and finally the process was concluded by the vote on the proposals.
The aim of the action was to familiarize the pupils with the functioning of an institution of the European Union, the European Parliament, and to understand, through teamwork, its central role in taking legislative initiatives to deal with important issues affecting European citizens' lives.
