School Project 2023-2024
On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the School Project for school year 2023-2024 concluded with an event at the Library's outdoor area. It was a day of celebration as the students had fun, listened to music from their home countries and danced. This was preceded by a project at the Library in which they presented the main monuments and traditional foods of their countries. At the end of the program, Certificates of Attendance were awarded to the participants, students, and teachers.
In 2023-2024, a total of 62 volunteer students from Junior High School 3, all High School Grades and IBDP participated in the program. For 16 Saturdays, our students were classmates of 30 refugees who attended Greek, Mathematics, English, and Physical Education classes at Athens College, did research on a given topic and presented it to their classmates. Our student volunteers acted as mentors and supported the refugee students in their endeavor. The classes were taught by 27 volunteer teachers of Athens College, 4 of whom are retired.
The educational program "School Project" was held for the first time in 2018 in cooperation with the NGO The HOME Project. Since last year, the NGO METAdrasi has also been participating in the program. With the School Project, volunteer teachers and students of our School contribute to the education of refugees, but mainly to their integration into Greek society.
The interaction and the communication bridges that are created between the refugee minors and our students help in the exchange of views, in the search for ways of communication, in the understanding of different perceptions and in the acceptance of diversity.
