A.C. Elementary School Library: International Children’s Book Day “The Book Museum”
Each year, on April 2nd, International Children’s Book Day is celebrated around the world. On that day in 1805, the great storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen, was born. Hans Christian Andersen became the magician of storytelling, giving his words wings that fascinate the imagination of children.
All of us who love books, who love the smell of their pages, happily recall those books that marked our childhood. We believe that browsing through each page is an opportunity for joy, knowledge and communication. An opportunity to feel and understand that which is different. An opportunity to dream.
Each year, a different national section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) decides upon a theme, preparing a message and designing a poster for International Children’s Book Day. These materials are disseminated around the world to promote a love of books and reading in children. Talented and imaginative authors of children’s books, as well as capable and creative illustrators who are internationally distinguished, enrichen this celebration with actions, such as children’s book exhibitions, coordinating events where students meet with writers and illustrators, theatrical performances, and more.
This year, the United States section is responsible for the material, which selected the following theme:
“The Music of Words”
To commemorate International Children’s Book Day (April 2), our School’s Library created “THE BOOK MUSEUM.” A museum different from all others! A museum whose exhibits allow every visitor, young or old, to browse through the pages of their favorite books. Its different rooms – collections flooded with stories words, illustrations and music – aim to highlight the value of books and to inspire students to read them.
For your best browsing experience, we created an online guide that provides you with useful information about the rooms – collections of the Book Museum.
