Final Round of Athens College High School’s March 25th Oratory Competition
The final round of this year’s March 25th
Oratory Competition, open to Athens College High School juniors, was held on Tuesday,
May 21, 2021.
Winner of the March 25th Prize for
academic year 2020-2021 is Ioanna-Eftychia Pappa and first runner-up is Niki
Kylika.
The contestants wrote speeches on the following theme:
Do you see this room? It is unornamented. No seats, bare walls; this is the Greece that we, the elders are handing over to you, the young generation. We, in 1821, cleared the land, laid the stones, constructed the building. You will decorate the bare walls, bring precious paintings, set up beautiful tables and hang mirrors. This is what your industriousness and learnedness shall do.

The combatants of the Greek revolution fought to establish a free homeland, free from fear and subjugation. Two hundred years later, how can the timeless values of ΄21 and the historical knowledge form a basis for reflection and serve as a guide for modern-day Greeks to meet the challenges of our time?
Members on the panel of judges were: Dr. Sophia Aneziri, Associate Professor of Ancient History at the Department of History and Archaeology of UOA, Dr. Spyridon Vlachopoulos, Professor of Public Law at the School of Law of UOA, and Mr. Haralampos Kyrialidis, President of the Founders of Greek Independent Schools Association and Director of Sychroni Paideia Schools.
Students who qualified for the final round of the competition were:
