May 19, 2022

The 5th Student Competition in Ancient Greek took place on Saturday, April 9, 2022. It was organized by Pierce College - American College of Greece, under the auspices of the 2nd Directorate of Secondary Education in Athens. Grade 1 students from public and private High Schools in the Prefecture of Attica participated in the Competition.

The aim of the Competition was to promote the study of Ancient Greek language and literature among the students and to introduce them to a wider range of ancient Greek texts in order to understand the timeless meanings and values they convey and recognize the roots of Modern Greek language in Ancient Greek. Students also looked at the strong connections between Ancient Greek thought and Modern Greek civilization, understanding the links between the two and the contributions to European and Western civilization.

Athens College High School student Foteini-Kalliopi Pantou received an Honorary Distinction for her participation in the Competition in the Awards Ceremony which took place on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the Faculty Lounge of Pierce - American College of Greece in Agia Paraskevi.
