An Evening of Poetry at Athens College

An especially emotional evening took place on Tuesday, June 21 2022 at the Athens College – Psychico College Alumni Clubhouse for the presentation of Katerina Vlachaki’s book entitled “Escape Road and Freedom” by Kaleidoskopio publishing house. The event was organized by Athens College's Directions of Social Welfare and Diversity and Crisis Management.

Throughout the difficulties of her life, Ms. Katerina Vlachaki, who suffers from cerebral palsy, has grown into a fighter and found a way to escape with poetry, where she records her thoughts and dreams.

Addresses were given by Athens College President Costas Synolakis ’75, the book’s publisher Ms. Alexa Apostolakis and the poet Katerina Vlachaki, through her mother.

Writer and President of the Society for the Protection of Spastics/Open Door Ms. Daphne Economou and educator and translator Ms. Konstantina Georganta spoke about the book.

Athens College students then recited poems from Katerina Vlachaki’s collection.

The event was presented by Director of Social Welfare and Diversity Mr. Chrysostomos Symeonides and his associate Ms. Lenia Pasalidou.
