“Team Greece 2024” reached the Semifinals of the World Schools Debating Championship 2024, in Belgrade, Serbia. Four of our School’s students participated in the team that ranked 4th in the world, achieving the highest ranking of a Greek debate team in over 15 years. 

The team that achieved this immense international success for our School and for Greece consisted of: Alexia Sextou from Anatolia College, and our students Manos Alevras, Kyriakos Gerogiannis, Leonidas Marinopoulos, and Maximus Papaioannides.  

The five-member Greek team competed against 68 national teams from all over the world, in the largest World Debate Championship to date. To reach the semifinals and 4th place, they defeated amongst others the national teams from Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the host team from Serbia. 

It should also be noted that Team Greece 2024 achieved remarkable international success throughout this year. They are the reigning European Schools Debating Champions, they won the international St. Andrews Pre-WSDC Online 2024 competition, and reached the final rounds of the Eurasian Schools Debating Championship, South Asian Schools Debating Championship, and Doxbridge WSDC Online. 

The team was coached by Themis Markidis, Kallina Basli (Forensics Head of Athens College), and Michael Shapira.
