Oktoberfest: From 1810 until today - Psychico College Grade 5

Oct 14, 2024
In the context of the PYP interdisciplinary unit "Where we are in place and time", students of Grade 5 had the opportunity to learn the history of Oktoberfest, the world's largest folk festival, which takes place every year in Munich. Today, we know it as a beer festival, but our students had the opportunity to learn that it started in 1810, when there were big celebrations for the wedding of Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Theresa. They also had the opportunity to see the evolution of the celebration through time. In the end, because every celebration has its own specialties, we all went to the school dining room and made the famous potato salad with sausages and felt like we were in Munich for a while. Students took the potato salad recipe with them...in German, so they can make it again whenever they want. We learned, cooked, felt, ate, celebrated Oktoberfest in our own unique way! O'zapft is!
