Athens College and Psychico College High School students distinguished in 7th World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth 2024
On Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, 2024 the 7th World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY 2024) was held hybrid (on site and online). Our school participated in the final with 3 projects in the High School Showcase category and 1 project in the High School LLM category.
The following projects were awarded in the Competition:
Athens College High School 2 students Konstantinos Papagiannakis and Vassilios Vassilakos with the project "A.i. C.L.A.S.S." won the Bronze Medal. Their work was supervised by Computer Science teacher Mr. Karampelas. The project is a comprehensive customer support proposal that can be used by businesses and organizations. The students utilized a combination of current Large Language Models (LLM), Retrieval Augmented Generation technique to derive valid answers through a properly formulated knowledge base, fine tuning to create personalized information according to the user's profile and then the application provides services to the user according to their needs.
IB DP1 student Zafeira Lazaraki with her project "Bridging Borders" supervised by Mr. Karampelas, received the Impact Excellence award. The project utilizes Large Language Models and the Agentic Retrieval Augmented Generation technique to extract answers from the Asylum Information Database (AIDA) and provide refugees with immediate and accurate information on asylum procedures, reception conditions, detention, and the content of international protection in 23 countries.
