On Friday, December 13, 2024, students of Mathematical Thinking Club of Athens College Junior High School Grades 1, 2 & 3 attended a speech by Apostolos Bournetas, Professor of Operational Research of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Athens. The topic of the speech was "Mathematics of Uncertainty".

During the talk the following topics were discussed: the concept of chance through the texts of Plato and Aristotle, the concept of probability in modern mathematics, false positive and false negative diagnoses, the paradox of birthdays, the use of probabilities in object recognition through artificial intelligence.
