Athens College Junior High School 2 - Speech in German class

Feb 28, 2025
As part of their German class, students in the bLA3-G4 and bLA3-G5 sections of Junior High School 2 had the opportunity to learn about the interpreting profession and explore the language industry world, with an emphasis on conference interpreting. Ms. Magkouti, a translator and conference interpreter, spoke to the students about the requirements and skills needed by a professional interpreter. Through role-playing exercises, the students practiced shadowing (simultaneous interpreting in the same language) and consecutive interpreting in the German-Greek language pair, understanding the differences and challenges of each method. The activity concluded with a discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of language professions and the technological developments that are already affecting the industry. This specific event is part of a broader initiative of guest speakers, giving students the opportunity to come into contact with professionals from different fields, ask questions and draw inspiration from their experiences and dedication to their field of work.
