Athens College Junior High School - Mathematical Thinking Club visits Florence

Mathematical Thinking Club students from Junior High School 2 and 3 embarked on an educational trip to Florence and Siena on March 5-8, 2025.

Day 1: Museo Galileo

The trip began with a visit to the Museo Galileo in Florence. The students explored the museum's exhibits with a guided tour, learning about Galileo's inventions and contributions to mathematics, geodesy, and astronomy. They gained insights into his scientific legacy and how his discoveries shaped modern science.

Day 2: Leonardo da Vinci Museum

On the second day, students visited the Leonardo da Vinci Museum in Florence, where they took part in a guided tour. The guide provided in-depth discussions on Leonardo da Vinci's works and inventions, deepening the students' understanding of da Vinci's scientific and artistic achievements.

Day 3: Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics -  University of Siena

On the third day, the students visited the Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Siena. They attended presentations on artificial intelligence, neural networks, and robotics in the Department's laboratories. Additionally, they attended a lecture on the importance of evidence for scientific progress. The students saw the latest technological developments up-close and understood the significance of mathematical evidence for scientific development. Finally, they visited the University's library and had full access to its collections.

Throughout their stay in Florence, students also explored the city with a professional guide, immersing themselves in its history, architecture, and culture, for a well-rounded educational experience.
