49th Gavriileia 2025

The 49th Athens College - Psychico College Junior High School - High School Interschool Swimming Meets "Gavriileia" took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. The event, held in memory of John A. Gavriil, was hosted at the "Alexandra Prokopiou" Swimming Center and the "John A. Gavriil" Swimming Pool.

Mr. Nikos Machairas, President of the Athletic Advisory Committee, spoke about the School's longstanding history in swimming, followed by President Spiros N. Pollalis, who officially declared the Meets open.

During the event, Ms. Evangelia Platanioti and Ms. Sofia Malkogeorgou were honored for their 6th place finish in the Artistic Swimming Duet at the Paris Olympics and their contribution to Greek sports. After expressing their gratitude for the awards they received, the athletes spoke about the importance of swimming in education and their Olympic experiences.

The results of the Meets were as follows:

Based on international ranking systems, Alexandra Doxiadi from High School 1 was declared best female athlete of the Meets, for her 32”28 performance in the 50m. Breaststroke. Charalabos Frydakis from High School 3 was declared best male athlete for his 24”37 performance in the 50m. Freestyle.

New Gavriileia records were set in the following races:

Junior High School

  • 50m. Backstroke, Georgios Athos-Konstantinos Tsakonas, Junior High School 3, 28”66
  • 50m. Breaststroke, Dimitrios Margetis, Junior High School 3, 31”62

High School

  • 50m. Backstroke, Michail Theodoros Andrianopoulos, High School 1, 28”02, also a new College record
  • 50m. Butterfly, Georgios Dousis, High School 2, 27”01
  • 50m. Breaststroke, Alexandra Doxiadi, High School 1, 32”28, also a new College record
  • 100m. Freestyle, Gavriella Maria Andrianopoulou, High School 1, 59”53, also a new College record

Following the conclusion of Gavriileia, an official timekeeping session recorded a new College record:

  • 100m. Backstroke, Georgios Athos-Konstantinos Tsakonas, Junior High School 3, 1’01”14

The first place in the General Ranking was awarded to High School 1, with a total of 86 points.
