Athens College Junior High School - "Nobody or Somebody? Human identity in the poetry of Homer and Cavafy"

The Athens College Greek Language Department organized the event "Nobody or Somebody? Human identity in the poetry of Homer and Cavafy" on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Athens College Theater. Students from all Junior High School grades recited excerpts from the Odyssey and C.P. Cavafy's poems and created visual art inspired by these works.
The event explored a timeless human dilemma: Are we "Nobody" or "Somebody"? Human existence oscillates between anonymity and identity, modesty and hubris, survival and the search for meaning. At times, people hide behind the anonymity of "Nobody" to protect themselves; at others, they seek recognition as "Somebody", revealing their true selves.
Ultimately, "Nobody" can transform into "Somebody" if they remove their mask and embrace an identity that will give them a meaningful place in the world.
