Student Raising Awareness Experiential Activity
On the occasion of the International Day of the Disabled (December 3rd), and within the framework of an Experiential Activity to Raise Awareness among students on people with diversity and mobility disabilities, the Direction of Athens College and Psychico College Junior High Schools in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education organized a visit to our School by athletes-representatives of the Association "Ionas - Department of Therapeutic Education for the Disabled".
The Association was founded in 2007 in order to restore and improve the mobility of people with disabilities and to prepare them for participation in sports events. The athletes Antonis Pappas, Antigoni Vassilopoulou, and George Bellos, together with their coach George Goundas, participate in national and local competitions (swimming, track, races with manual wheelchairs, triathlon, 5km and 10km track races in the Authentic Marathon of Athens).
The aim of this visit was to:
- Raise the awareness of our students and activate their emotional intelligence
- Motivate our students to trust their strengths and develop themselves
- Introduce and familiarize them with volunteering and community service
During the event, a speech was given by G. Goundas. Athens College and Psychico College Grade 8 students participated in sports activities: running blindfolded, goalball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair familiarization.
The School's “A” Association played an important role in the successful organization of the event.
