Exploring the magical world of “The Frogs”

Aristophanes’ “The Frogs” inspired the Drama Club of the Psychico College Junior High - High School, who represented our school to the 9th International Youth Festival of Ancient Drama, which took place in the Ancient Theater of Messene (May 3-11, 2022).

Our students unfolded their acting talents, and respectfully performed a text that addresses challenging issues, such as the transience of life and art, and the role of poetry in social cohesion during intellectually challenging times.

The story starts unfolding in this world, and eventually reaches Ades. The heroes are gods, semi gods and mortals; poets and servants. The frogs converse with humans, as the poets’ words are dissected.

The young actors’ performances were guided by strong instincts combined with intensive preparation throughout the year. They were unpretentiously direct and outgoing, while being fully aware of the importance conveyed by this special venue.

The brave approach of our student actors serves as an antidote to the crisis faced by culture and the arts. It gives hope to all of us, who wish to see ancient drama brought back to life on stage. Let’s not forget that it offers more than entertainment - it provides education. Through such initiatives, young students learn to coexist, to discipline themselves, and explore their artistic talents.
