Psychico College Junior High School students visit CERN

Apr 9, 2025
From February 25 to 28, 2025, students from the Contemporary Physics Club of Psychico College Junior High School traveled to Switzerland for an educational visit to the CERN research center. The trip was the culmination of five months of preparation under the guidance of the Club's supervising teachers, Ms. E. Kontou and Ms. S. Fragkou.

The students visited the Einstein Museum in the city of Bern. Through its exhibits, they explored the life and work of Albert Einstein, as well as the cultural and historical context of his era. The visit offered valuable insights into Einstein's theories and helped students better understand the broader development of scientific thought. In Lausanne, the group toured the Olympic Museum, where they watched screenings and explored the exhibits, gaining an appreciation for the role of transnational cooperation in culture and sport.

The students visited the CERN research center in Geneva. Guided by a researcher, they toured the site of the first collider, learned about the experiments conducted there (LHC, CMS, ATLAS, ALICE) and attended a presentation on particle detection. At the ScienceGateway interactive exhibition, they spoke with scientists and participated in a workshop on the construction and programming of a vehicle equipped with a thermal camera.

The students also visited the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum and toured the city of Geneva, learning about the history and culture of Switzerland.

This visit provided the students with experiences that broadened their horizons and further ignited their passion for science and culture.
