Students of the Psychico College Junior High School UNESCO Club participated successfully in the 5th World Heritage Symposium for Youth titled "This is our Living Heritage" and the theme of the Intangible World Heritage. The Symposium, organized by the Hellenic Cultural and Educational Association for UNESCO with the support of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and the United Nations Regional Information Center, took place from April 17 to April 21, 2024 at the premises of the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia. Our students presented before other students from 14 countries of the world the history of the Rebetiko song, which since 2017 has been included in the list of Intangible World Cultural Heritage. In particular, they danced a Hasapiko dance in the context of a music and dance event that they prepared and referred to the roots of the Rebetiko song, its evolutionary course, its important representatives and its survival until today in the musical life of our country. At the same time, within the framework of the Symposium, the students took part, together with students from other countries, in workshops on the World Intangible Cultural Heritage and were given a guided tour of an olive press and a winery in the region. Finally, they visited the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Olympia, as well as the Archimedes Museum, where exhibits related to the history of the site are on display.
