Flame of Hope lighting ceremony
Feb 25, 2025

The international Board of Directors for Special Olympics has traditionally entrusted Special Olympics Hellas with hosting the Flame of Hope torch lighting ceremony both for Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia and for the World Games. The Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 will take place on March 7-16, 2025.
In anticipation of this event, the Flame of Hope lighting ceremony for Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin was held at the Zappeion Megaron Central Atrium on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
Special Olympics Hellas athletes of rhythm gymnastics and an Athens College High School 2 student actively participated in the lighting ceremony, acting as Priestesses and presenting their choreography, culminating in the lighting of the Flame by the High Priestess and its handover to the President of the Games Organizing Committee. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Flame was handed over to the first torchbearers - a Special Olympics Hellas athlete and an athlete representing the organizing country. The ceremony was followed by a torch relay to the Embassy of host country Italy, with various stops in between.
Our School was honored to be invited to the lighting ceremony and participate in the torch relay, represented by Athens College and Psychico College High School students, members of the "A" Association.
The students were accompanied by Vasilis Moschos, Interschool Head of Physical Education and Sports, and Physical Education teacher Giorgos Souliotis.
