Activity for the International Day of the Disabled
On the occasion of the International Day of the Disabled (December 3), and in the framework of an Experiential Action for the Awareness of students to people with diversity and mobility disabilities, the Athens College and Psychico College Junior High School Directions in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education organized a visit to our School by athletes-representatives of the Association "Ionas - Department of Therapeutic Education for the Disabled".
The Association was founded in 2007 in order to restore and improve the mobility of people with disabilities and to prepare them for competing in sports events. Athletes Antonis Pappas and Giorgos Bellos, together with their coaches Giorgos Goundas and Fani Tsavakou, participate in national and local competitions (swimming, running, races with wheelchairs, triathlon, 5km and 10km races in the Authentic Marathon of Athens).
The aim of this visit was to:
- To raise awareness among our students and activate their emotional intelligence
- To motivate our children to trust their strengths and develop themselves
- To introduce and familiarize them with volunteering and community service
During the event, G. Goundas delivered a speech and Athens College and Psychico College Junior High School 1 students participated in the following sports activities: running blindfolded, goalball, sitting volleyball, basketball with wheelchairs.
The contribution of members of the "A" Association members to the organization of the event was valuable.
